Belarus: Inflation eases to five-year low in 2015

In December, consumer prices rose 1.2% over the previous month, which was above November’s 0.5% rise. According to the National Statistical Committee, the acceleration was driven by faster growth in food prices and services.

Inflation accelerated in December, rising from November’s 11.3% to 12.0%. For 2015, inflation averaged 13.5%, which marked the lowest reading since 2010 (2014: 18.1%). The core consumer price index—which strips out prices for more volatile goods, such as seasonal products and government regulated goods—rose 0.8% in December over the previous month (November: +0.5% month-on-month). Core inflation accelerated, rising from 10.4% in November to 11.3% in December.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see inflation at 14.0% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. In 2017, panelists expect inflation of 12.1%.
