May 13, 2016
In April, consumer prices rose 0.7% over the previous month, which came in below March’s 0.8% rise and marked the slowest increase in five months. According to the National Statistical Committee, the figure came on the back of a softer expansion in all three components of the index.
Inflation edged down in April from 12.8% in March to 12.6%. Annual average inflation eased to 12.3% (March: 12.5%). The core consumer price index—which strips out prices for more volatile goods, such as seasonal products and government regulated goods—increased 0.7% in April over the previous month (March: +1.0% month-on-month). Core inflation jumped to 4.8% from March’s 4.0%.
