Belarus Industry December 2016

Belarus: Industrial production steady in December

January 16, 2017

Belarusian industrial production in December expanded 5.1% over the same month last year, matching November’s two-year high. According to the National Statistical Committee (BELSTAT), the expansion was driven by strong growth in the manufacturing sector and the electricity, gas, steam, hot water and air conditioning supply sector, which more than offset a plunge in mining and quarrying activity.

Annual average growth in industrial production increased from minus 0.9% in November to minus 0.4% in December, the best figure since April 2015.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see industrial production growing 0.4% in 2017, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s Consensus. For 2018, panelists see industrial production increasing 2.1%.
