Belarus: Industrial production shoots up in November

Belarus - Industrial production in November expanded 5.1% over the same month last year, up from October’s 0.3% figure and marking the fastest growth in two years. According to the National Statistical Committee (BELSTAT), the expansion was driven by strong growth in the manufacturing sector and the electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioning supply sector, while the mining and quarrying sector was constant year on year.

Annual average growth in industrial production jumped from minus 1.9% in October to minus 0.9% in November, the best figure since May 2015.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see industrial production growing 0.6% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s Consensus. For 2018, panelists see industrial production increasing 1.9%.

According to Belarus’ National Statistical Committee (BELSTAT), the biggest expansion was observed in the manufacturing sub-index, which itself was driven by a noteworthy increase in the production of machinery and equipment.

  • Belarus: Growth in industrial production surges in May to over four-year high

    Industrial production in May jumped 8.4% over the same month last year, however the reading comes in below April’s 8.7%. According to Belarus’ National Statistical Committee (BELSTAT), the expansion was driven primarily by strong growth in the manufacture of machinery and equipment sector, while the category of other manufacturing (which includes repair and installation of machinery and equipment) recorded the biggest contraction. Annual average growth in industrial production increased from 2.2% in April to 2.8% in May, marking the highest result in over four years.
