Belarus: Industrial production moderates in July
August 16, 2017
Industrial production rose 5.4% over the same month of the previous year in July, coming in lower than the 6.6% jump in June.
According to Belarus’ National Statistical Committee (BELSTAT), the biggest expansion was observed in the manufacturing sub-index, which itself was driven by a noteworthy increase in the production of machinery and equipment. In contrast, the production of computer, electronic and optical products shrank sharply in the same period. Meanwhile, increases were also observed in the electricity, gas, steam, hot water and conditioning supply sector, the mining and quarrying sector, and the water supply, waste management and remediation activities sector.
Despite a slowdown in the headline figure, annual average growth in industrial production climbed to the highest level since February 2013, increasing from 3.5% in June to 4.3% in July.
