Belarus: Industrial production deteriorates in July

August 20, 2016

In July, industrial production contracted to a six-month low of 4.4% over the same month last year, deteriorating over June’s softer 0.1% drop. According to the National Statistical Committee (BELSTAT), this result was driven by declines in manufacturing, electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply as well as water supply. Conversely, mining and quarrying expanded solidly.

Meanwhile, the overall trend improved slightly in July as annual average growth in industrial production recovered marginally from minus 3.7% in June to minus 3.6%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see industrial production contracting 0.9% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s Consensus. For 2017, panelists see industrial production returning to growth and expanding 1.3%.
