Belarus: Industrial output contracts at sharpest pace on record in April

May 17, 2022

Industrial output contracted 10.6% year-on-year in April (March: -6.4% yoy). The result marked the worst result since current records began. The notable downturn was primarily driven by a noticeable decline in manufacturing.

Meanwhile, the trend pointed down, with the annual average growth of industrial production coming in at minus 2.1%, down from March’s 1.9%.

FocusEconomics panelists project that industrial production will decrease -8.9% in 2022, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s projection. In 2023, industrial output is seen increasing 0.8%.
