Belarus: Growth in industrial production moderates to four-month low

March 16, 2017

Industrial production in February grew just 0.3% over the same month last year (January: +5.9% year-on-year), which was the lowest reading since October 2016. According to the National Statistical Committee (BELSTAT), the expansion was driven by strong growth in the manufacturing sector, which more than offset contractions in the other three key sectors that make up the index.

Annual average growth in industrial production inched up from a 0.7% in January to 1.0% increase in February, the best figure since February 2015.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see industrial production growing 1.2% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s Consensus. For 2018, panelists see industrial production increasing 2.3%.
