Belarus: Growth in industrial production in March surges to over two-year high

Industrial production in Belarus in March jumped 6.7% over the same month last year (February: +0.3% year-on-year), which was the highest reading since November 2014. According to the National Statistical Committee (BELSTAT), the expansion was driven by strong growth in the manufacturing sector and more modest expansions in the mining and quarrying and electricity sectors.

As a result of March’s robust print, annual average growth in industrial production increased from a 1.0% in February to 1.8% in March, marking the best figure since February 2015.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see industrial production growing 1.2% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s Consensus. For 2018, panelists see industrial production increasing 2.3%.
