Belarus: Growth in industrial production in April surges to over four-year high

Industrial production in April rose 8.7% over the same month last year (March: +6.7% year-on-year), which was the highest reading since June 2012. According to the National Statistical Committee (BELSTAT), the expansion was broad-based as all three categories that compose the index increased in March, with the electricity sector recording the largest gains.

As a result of April’s strong print, annual average growth in industrial production increased from 1.8% in March to 2.2% in April, marking the best figure since March 2013.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see industrial production growing 1.2% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s Consensus. For 2018, panelists see industrial production increasing 2.3%.
