Belarus Industrial production December 2015

Belarus: Fall in industrial production eases in December

January 19, 2016

In December, industrial output dropped 1.1% over the same month last year, according to the National Statistical Committee (BELSTAT). The figure was a less pronounced decline than November’s 7.1% drop, yet marked the 12th month of decline in a row. December’s softer contraction reflected an improvement in manufacturing.

For the full year 2015, industrial production fell 6.6%. The result was significantly worse than 2014’s 2.0% expansion and marked the worst result since the index began in 2010.

According to a preliminary estimate released by BELSTAT, GDP fell 3.9% for the full year 2015, which notably contrasted 2014’s 1.7% expansion.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see industrial production contracting 0.5% in 2016, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s Consensus. For 2017, panelists see industrial output growing 1.6%.
