Austria: Industrial production starts year on solid footing

March 25, 2016

In January, industrial production increased 1.5% over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms. The reading marked the largest expansion in over a year and contrasted the 1.2% decrease recorded in December. January’s rebound was driven by turnarounds in manufacturing and the production of electricity and gas along with an acceleration in water supply.

In annual terms, industrial production grew 1.5% in January, contrasting the 0.8% drop recorded in December. Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production edged up from 0.7% in December to 0.9% in January.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will increase 1.9% in 2016, which is unchanged over the previous month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects that industrial production will increase 2.1%.
