Austria: Industrial production rebounds in March

In March, industrial production increased 1.0% over the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms. The reading contrasted the revised 0.7% contraction recorded in February, which was previously reported as a 1.1% decrease. March’s expansion was driven by a strong rebound in the mining and quarrying sector as well as in manufacturing.

In annual terms, industrial production grew 2.5% in March, which marked a substantial increase over the revised 0.8% expansion recorded in February (previously reported: +0.4%). Meanwhile, annual average growth in industrial production in March was 1.1%, which was a touch higher than February’s 1.0%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will increase 1.6% in 2016, which is unchanged over the previous month’s forecast. For 2017, the panel expects that industrial production will increase 2.0%.
