Austria Industry April 2017

Austria: Industrial production contracts in April

June 23, 2017

In April, industrial production contracted 0.4% over the previous month in seasonally adjusted terms, contrasting March’s 0.2% expansion. April’s deterioration was driven by the manufacturing and mining sector swinging to contraction, largely offsetting a softer contraction in the energy sector and a return to growth in the water supply sector.

In annual terms, industrial production grew 3.3% in April, which was below the 4.2% registered in March. However, annual average growth in industrial production in April was 2.1%, up from March’s 1.9%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will increase 2.8% in 2017, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, the panel expects that industrial production will increase 2.6%.
