Austria: Industrial production falls in November

January 23, 2015

In November, industrial output fell a seasonally-adjusted 0.7% over the previous month. The result followed the revised 0.1% decrease observed in October (previously reported: -0.3% month-on-month). November’s decline was caused by a contraction in manufacturing output and a slowdown in mining and quarrying. In contrast, water supply as well as electricity and gas production rebounded to grow over the previous month.

Compared to the same month of the previous year, industrial production contracted a working-day adjusted 2.5% in November, which was down from the 2.0% fall observed in October. As a result of the contraction registered in November, annual average growth in industrial production fell from minus 0.1% in October to minus 0.3% in November.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to rise 1.8% this year, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, participants expect industrial output to pick up to 2.4%.
