Austria: Industrial production falls in May

July 24, 2015

In May, industrial output fell a seasonally-adjusted 0.8% over the previous month. The result contrasted April’s revised zero growth (previously reported: +0.1% month-on-month) and marked a nine-month low. May’s figure was the result of a deterioration in water supply output as well as in electricity and gas. In contrast, mining and quarrying and manufacturing improved in May compared to the previous month.

Compared to the same month of the previous year, industrial production grew a working-day adjusted 0.7% in May, which mirrored April’s revised increase (previously reported: +0.8% year-on-year). Annual average growth in industrial production rose from April’s minus 0.7% to minus 0.5% in May.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to increase 1.5% this year, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, participants expect growth in industrial production to pick up 2.2%.
