Austria: Industrial production contracts less in September

November 25, 2015

In September, industrial output fell a seasonally-adjusted 0.4% over the previous month. The result marked a softer drop than August’s 1.0% decrease, which was the worst result since July 2014. September’s improvement reflects a milder contraction in manufacturing as well as turnarounds in mining and quarrying and electricity and gas. Conversely, water supply slowed in September.

Compared to the same month of last year, industrial production expanded a working-day adjusted 0.2% in September, which followed August’s 1.0% increase. Annual average growth in industrial production advanced from August’s minus 0.4% to minus 0.2% in September.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to increase 1.2% this year, which is down 0.4 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists expect growth in industrial production to pick up and grow 2.2%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection.
