Austria Consumer Confidence May 2017

Austria: Consumer confidence rises to highest level in almost six years

May 30, 2017

The consumer confidence index produced by Fessel-GfK increased from 1 point in April to 4 points in May. Therefore, the index now sits further above the 0-point threshold, indicating that optimists outnumber pessimists. The index had been below zero from September 2011 until March 2016.

May’s encouraging print was the result of continued improvement in consumers’ assessment of the general economic situation and the labor market in the months ahead.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 1.1% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists see private consumption rising 1.2%.
