Austria: Consumer confidence rises in February

February 26, 2021

Consumer confidence rose to a five-month high of minus 11 in February from January’s minus 13. As a result, the index inched closer to the neutral zero-threshold that separates pessimism from optimism among Austrian consumers.

The uptick came on the back of less pessimism regarding the financial situation of households in the year ahead and a less downbeat view on the labor market in the same period. That said, sentiment regarding the financial situation of households moderated in the month.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists foresee private consumption growing 3.9% in 2021, which is down 1.0 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2022, panelists see private consumption rising 3.0%.
