Austria: Consumer confidence remains unchanged in May

May 28, 2015

The consumer confidence index elaborated by Fessel-GfK remained unchanged at April’s minus 11 points in May. As a result, the index still lies below the 0-point threshold, which indicates that pessimists outnumber optimists.

May’s result partly reflected that consumers’ more pessimistic assessments regarding both their current economic and financial situations were largely offset by their more optimistic views on their ability to make major purchases and the prospective economic situation.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 0.7% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, panelists see private consumption rising 1.1%.
