Austria Consumer Confidence July 2017

Austria: Consumer confidence edges up to five year high in July

July 28, 2017

The consumer confidence index produced by Fessel-GfK edged up to 5 points in July, up from 4 points in June. The index therefore moved further above the 0-point threshold, indicating that optimists outnumber pessimists. The index had been below zero from September 2011 until March 2016.

July’s positive print was the result of continued improvement in consumers’ assessment of the general economic outlook and the labor market in the months ahead.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 1.5% in 2017, which is up 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2018, panelists see private consumption rising 1.2%.
