Austria Consumer Confidence September 2016

Austria: Consumer confidence drops in September

September 28, 2016

The consumer confidence index produced by Fessel-GfK deteriorated in September. The indicator fell from August’s minus 9 to minus 11 in September, pushing it further below the 0-point threshold that indicates that pessimists outnumber optimists. July’s result had marked the index’s highest reading in two years; the index has been below zero since 2011.

September’s result mainly reflected households’ increased concern about unemployment and the economic situation in the next 12 months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 1.3% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists see private consumption rising 1.1%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast.
