Argentina: Industrial production contracts less in May

June 25, 2015

In May, industrial production fell 0.9% over the same month last year. The reading was above the 1.5% contraction seen in the previous month and marked a 10-month high. May’s result was driven by a notable decrease in the food industry.

On a monthly basis, industrial production in May expanded 0.3% in seasonally-adjusted terms, which followed the 0.4% increase seen in April. Annual average variation in industrial production rose from April’s minus 2.0% to minus 1.7%, the highest level since April 2014.

LatinFocus Consensus Forecast panel participants expect that industrial production will decrease 0.7% in 2015, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2016, the panel expects industrial production to increase 2.8%.
