Argentina: Economy continues to expand at healthy pace in January
March 28, 2011
In January, the monthly indicator for economic activity (EMAE, Estimador Mensual de Actividad Economica) rose 9.5% over the same month the previous year. The figure was down from the revised 10.1% increase (previously reported: +9.4%) recorded in December, but beat analyst expectations, which had economic activity expanding 9.0% year-on-year. A month-on-month comparison corroborates the positive annual reading. The economy expanded 0.48% over the previous month in seasonally adjusted terms, which was, nonetheless, down from the 1.25% increase recorded in December. The trend continued to improve, as annual average growth in economic activity rose to 9.5% in January from 9.2% in December, marking the strongest performance since September 2004.
