Argentina: Consumer confidence drops further in March
March 22, 2012
In March, the Universidad Torcuato di Tella (UTDT) consumer confidence index dropped 4.6% over the previous month to 50.2 points, which was the second consecutive decrease following an 8.2% drop in February. As a result, consumer sentiment now sits only slightly above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism. Both sub-indices relating to the general economic situation and to the personal economic situation deteriorated compared to the previous month. The largest drop was experienced by households' short-term expectations on their financial situation (-5.7%). Accordingly, households' willingness to purchase durable goods decreased 2.3% compared to February.
