Argentina: Consumer confidence deteriorates in June
June 26, 2012
In June, the Universidad Torcuato di Tella (UTDT) consumer confidence index dropped 4.4% over the previous month to 44.4 points, contrasting the 5.9% increase recorded in May and marking the fourth drop in the last five months. As a result, consumer sentiment moved further away from the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism. Both sub-indices relating to the general economic situation and to the personal economic situation deteriorated compared to the previous month. The largest drop was experienced by households' short-term expectations on the general economic situation (-4.8%). In addition, households' willingness to purchase durable goods deteriorated compared to May.
