Angola: Inflation nears 40.0% in September

In September, consumer prices rose 2.14% from the previous month, down from August’s 3.31% increase. According to the National Statistical Institute (Instituto Nacional de Estatística), the figure in September reflected increases in all 12 components of the index, with the miscellaneous goods and services, and the leisure, recreation and culture components reporting the strongest rises.

Inflation edged up from 38.2% in August to 39.4% in September, the highest level since July 2004. Meanwhile, the trend continued to point upward: annual average inflation rose markedly from 23.1% in August to 25.4% in September, a level not seen in 11 years.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panel participants expect inflation of 30.9% in 2016, which is up 1.6 percentage points from last month’s projection. For 2017, the panel foresees inflation of 22.2%, which is up 4.8 percentage points.
