Angola Business Confidence Q3 2016

Angola: Economic sentiment increases slightly in Q3

December 9, 2016

The economic climate indicator (ICE, Indicador de Clima Económico) for Angola, which is published by the National Statistical Institute and covers the mining, manufacturing, construction, trade, transport, tourism and communication sectors, recovered some ground and increased from minus 34 in the second quarter to minus 32 in the third quarter. Despite the small increase, the index is still deeply below its plus 15-point historical average.

The third quarter’s recovery was broad-based, with all seven components of the index inching up but still scoring below their averages. The largest increases were seen in the manufacturing industry and transport sectors.

This month’s Consensus Forecast projects that fixed investment will grow 3.8% in 2017, which is unchanged from last month’s estimate. In 2018, our panel of analysts expects private investment to increase 4.9%, which is up 1.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast.
