According to data released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), GDP expanded 4.4% in the first half of 2012, which marks a moderation compared the 5.6% expansion recorded in the same period last year. At the sector level, the result was driven by a slowdown in two out of the three main sectors. In particular, industry and construction experienced the strongest deceleration, expanding 3.8% over the same period last year (Jan-Jun 2011: +6.5% year-on-year). Services slowed from a 6.1% expansion in the first half of 2011 to a 5.6% rise in first six months of 2012. Finally, agriculture rose 2.8%, up from the 2.1% increase recorded in the January-June period of 2011.
