According to data released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), GDP expanded 4.7% in the first nine months of 2012, which marks a moderation compared the 5.8% expansion recorded in the same period last year. At the sector level, the result was driven by a slowdown in two out of the three main sectors. In particular, the industry and construction sector experienced the strongest deceleration, expanding 4.4% over the same period last year (Jan-Sep 2011: +6.6% year-on-year). Services slowed from a 6.2% expansion in the first nine months of 2011 to a 6.0% rise in the same period this year. Finally, agriculture rose 2.5%, inching up from the 2.4% increase recorded in the January-September period of 2011.
