In May, consumer prices rose 0.6% over the previous month, which followed the 1.1% rise seen in April. According to the statistical office, the monthly increase was mainly driven by higher prices for clothing and footwear as well as for food and non-alcoholic beverages. Despite the monthly price increase, annual headline inflation moderated from 2.6% in April to 2.4% in May. Meanwhile, annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) remained stable at April's 2.2%.
