In August, consumer prices added 0.7% over the previous month, which contrasted the 1.0% drop recorded in July. According to the statistical office, the monthly increase was driven by higher prices for transport and for housing. As a result of the monthly increase, annual headline inflation rose from 2.4% in July to 2.9% in August. Meanwhile, annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) edged up from July's 2.4% to 2.6%, the highest level since June 2009.
