In September, industrial output rose 2.5% over the same month the previous year, which contrasted August's 1.5% contraction. The September increase was mainly driven by the manufacturing sector, which grew 2.9% year-on-year, while mining and quarrying as well as electricity, gas and water supply recorded losses. Seasonally adjusted data corroborate the improvement suggested by the annual figures, as industrial production expanded 1.6% over the previous month in September, following August's 1.3% rise. Despite the robust September reading, the trend in industrial production continues to point downwards, with annual average growth inching down from 5.2% in August to 5.1% in September.
