In July, consumer prices dropped 0.1% over the previous month, contrasting the flat reading tallied in June. The decrease mainly reflected lower food prices, which fell a considerable 1.1% month-on-month. As a result, annual headline inflation edged down from 3.9% in June to 3.7% in July, while annual average HICP inflation (based on the harmonized index of consumer prices) rose from 2.1% in May to 2.4% in June, the latest month for which data are available. The Central Bank expects annual average HICP inflation to reach 4.1% this year before moderating to 3.3% in 2012.
