In April, consumer prices added 0.5% over the previous month, which was a notch above the 0.4% increase observed in March. Higher prices for food as well as for prices of clothing and footwear were the primary drivers behind the monthly price rise. As a result, annual headline inflation inched up from 3.6% in March to 3.7% in April, the fastest pace since December 2008. The Central Bank revised its forecasts in March 2011 and now expects annual average HICP inflation to reach 3.8% this year before moderating to 2.9% in 2012.
