The September consumer confidence index fell to minus 56.0 points from minus 48.7 points in August, reaching the lowest level since January. At the current level, consumer sentiment is 2.1 points below the levels observed in the same month last year. Consumers were more pessimistic about their financial situation in the next 12 months and expected higher unemployment, causing their willingness to make major purchases to deteriorate. Meanwhile, the economic climate indicator fell from minus 4.0 points in August to minus 4.2 points in September, breaking the positive trend observed since March.
