According to the Central Statistical Office's Business Tendency Survey (GUS-BTS), the index for the general business climate inched down from 3.1 points in July to 3.0 points in August. Consequently, the index continues to hover above the zero-point threshold separating pessimism from optimism for a seventh consecutive month. Compared to the same period last year, business confidence dropped 5.1 points. Businesses were more pessimistic about their ability to pay current debts, but more optimistic regarding expected production levels.
