According to the Central Statistical Office's Business Tendency Survey (GUS-BTS), the industry index for the expected general business climate pushed higher above the 3.7 points registered in March to 4.3 points in April. The increase nudged the index further above the zero-point threshold, which separates pessimism from optimism. However, compared to the same period of last year, businesses were more pessimistic as the index dropped by 5.6 points. The improvement in the sentiment gauge reflected increasing optimism among businesses regarding current production levels as well as foreign order-books. On the other hand, businesses were more pessimistic regarding their total volume of liabilities.
