Malaysia Inflation

Inflation edges down to lowest level in almost three years

In December, consumer prices were flat over the previous month, which was below the 0.1% increase tallied in November. The result mainly reflected how higher prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages offset lower prices for clothing and footwear as well as for transport.

Annual inflation inched down from 1.3% in November to 1.2% in December, which had represented the lowest level seen since February 2010. Moreover, the reading came in below market expectations of a 1.4% increase. As a result, annual average inflation stepped down from 1.8% in November to 1.7% in December.
