Inflation accelerates in January

In January, consumer prices rose 0.38% over the previous month, which followed the flat reading tallied in December. The result mainly reflected a sharp increase in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Annual inflation inched up from 1.2% in December to 1.3% in January, which came in above market expectations of a 1.2% increase. That said, annual average inflation inched down from 1.7% in December to 1.6% in January.
