In March, the manufacturing sentiment index published by ISTAT rose to 103.8 points. The figure was an improvement compared to the revised 103.1 points (previously reported: 103.0 points) recorded in February and contrasted market analysts expectations, which saw sentiment falling to 102.6 points. The monthly reading represented the best result since February 2008, thus reaffirming the notion that business confidence has returned to pre-crisis levels. According to ISTAT, businesses have a more positive assessment of the current levels of production and also see production improving going forward, in line with rosier expectations of future orders.
