Consumer confidence falls in March

In March, the Adimark GfK consumer confidence index (IPEC, Indice de Percepcion de la Economia) dropped to 56.8 points, from the 58.1 points recorded in February. However, confidence among consumers remains well above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism.

The deterioration came on the back of households' more pessimistic assessment regarding their personal current economic situation. On the other hand, consumers' assessment of the five year national outlook improved somewhat, reaching the highest level since January.

Consensus Forecast participants expect total consumption to grow 5.2% this year, which is unchanged from last month's forecast. For 2014, the panel sees total consumption expanding 4.7%.
