In October, the business confidence index (IMCE, Indicador Mensual de Confianza Empresarial) published by Icare and the Universidad Adolfo Ibanez inched up to 59.7 points from 59.5 points in September. At the current level, which is the highest recorded in five months, the index remains above the 50-point threshold that separates optimism from pessimism. The monthly rise was driven by improvements in the mining and industrial sectors. The construction sector deteriorated over the previous month, although it remains in optimistic territory, while commerce remained virtually unchanged.
