The Ivey Purchasing Managers Index (PMI), which is sponsored by the Richard Ivey School of Business and the Purchasing Management Association of Canada, decreased from 57.1 points in November to 53.6 points in December, the lowest level seen since July 2011. Nevertheless, the PMI remained above the 50-point threshold for a fifth consecutive month, which suggests that the manufacturing sector is expanding. Furthermore, on a seasonally adjusted basis, the Ivey PMI rose from 59.9 points in November to 63.5 points in December.
