In July, consumer prices jumped 1.5% over the previous month, which contrasted the 1.0% drop recorded in June and marked, in fact, the sharpest increase since November 2007. The monthly reading reflected surging prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as for transport, on the back of galloping oil prices. As a result of the increase, annual inflation soared from 1.6% in June to 3.1% in July, the highest level since November 2011. Annual average inflation, however, inched down from 2.7% in June to 2.6%.
