In August, consumer prices rose 0.5% over the previous month, which was below the 1.5% jump recorded in July. The monthly reading reflected rising prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages as well as for transport, on the back of higher oil prices. As a result of the monthly increase, annual inflation jumped from 3.1% in July to 3.9% in August, the highest level seen in a year, but broadly in line with market expectations of a 3.8% rate. Annual average inflation, however, inched down from 2.6% in July to 2.5%.
