Economy to Contract This Year

The economy is expected to suffer the first full-year contraction in almost a decade as both the domestic and the external sectors suffer the effects of the global economic downturn. On a positive note, inflation continues to moderate which recently prompted the Central Bank to lower its inflation target for this year. Meanwhile, on the political front, a recent scandal concerning President Lugo could undermine the credibility of his minority government.
