Mild recovery expected

The economic recovery is still fragile as Nicaragua has likely registered the worst contraction in over a decade in 2009. Moreover, growth prospects for this year and the next remain subdued. Meanwhile, in the political arena, incumbent President Daniel Ortega signed a decree extending the term of electoral commission members, a majority of which are in favor of his possible re-election, despite facing severe criticism from Congress.
