UKRAINE
Snapshot
The economy slowed in the final quarter of 2011. According to advance estimates, GDP grew 4.6% annually, which came in below the previous quarter’s 6.6% expansion. Meanwhile, Ukraine has been unable either to reach an agreement with the IMF or to obtain more lenient terms from Russia for its gas supply, raising concerns about the government’s ability to finance its fiscal deficit and contain the widening current account deficit.
