SLOVENIA
Snapshot
After eight weeks of political uncertainty, Janez Janša, the leader of the centre-right Democratic Party of Slovenia (SDS) was nominated as Prime Minister on 28 January. Janša, whose party came second in the 4 December election, will form a five-party coalition government in charge of steering the economy amid rising public debt and worsening macroeconomic prospects. In the same vein, on 27 January, Fitch cut the country’s rating two notches to A with a negative outlook, citing the continued deterioration in the Slovenian banking sector’s financial position.
